CARO 2016 RECAP

CARO Fellowship – The third annual CARO fellowship of $75,000 per annum provides an opportunity for a CARO member who has completed their radiation oncology training in Canada to undertake additional clinical and/or translational research training. We want to congratulate Dr. Danielle Rodin for winning this year’s fellowship for her research project titled ‘Controlling the cost of cancer: Promoting value-based care’.

ACURA Grant – We want to congratulate the 8 winners of the ACURA grant this year which totaled $220,000. The grant is funded by AbbVie to conduct prostate cancer research and was awarded to Cynthia Ménard, Tsz Kin Bernard Lee, Luis Souhami, Eric Vigneault, Timothy Craig, Patrick Cheung, Rachel Glicksman and Alejandro Berlin.

SANOFI Grant – There were two winners of the Sanofi grant this year; Meredith Guiliani and John Thoms. They were each awarded $24, 000 for research projects related to prostate cancer.

CARO-CROF Pamela Catton Summer Studentship – CARO and CROF established the Pamela Catton Summer Studentship to provide Canadian medical students with the opportunity for an outstanding clinical experience in radiation oncology and assist in their future career selection. This year, there were 5 studentships awarded from across the country. The winners were Alexander Koven, Armin Rahmani, Alexis Prive, Sharon Feng and Jordan Hill.

MEETINGS

CARO Annual Scientific Meeting (ASM) – We had a fantastic 30^th Annual CARO ASM in Banff, Alberta this year! We are already excited for the 2017 meeting happening September 13-16^th in Toronto, ON. See you there!

CARO-ESTRO Course – This year CARO and ESTRO collaborated and presented the CARO-ESTRO Course on Image Guided radiotherapy in Gynecological Cancers. It was a great success! CARO will continue to work collaboratively with our sister organizations.

OTHER BENEFITS

Sosido – CARO is participating in an online knowledge sharing network, created for and by health care associations, to highlight the important work and research of CARO members. You will continue to receive weekly email digests summarizing all activity in the CARO community.

CUREUS – CARO is partnering with CUREUS, which is an open access online journal. This is a unique opportunity for you to publish your work – and it’s 100% free. ESTRO Dual Membership – All full CARO members have a dual membership to ESTRO with reduced members’ fees for attending ESTRO and joint events/courses and online access to The Green Journal: Radiotherapy and Oncology.

RÉTROSPECTIVE DE L’ACRO EN 2016

Bourse de recherche de l’ACRO – La troisième bourse de recherche annuelle de l’ACRO de 75 000 $ par année vise à offrir la possibilité à un membre de l’ACRO qui a terminé sa formation en radio-oncologie au Canada de suivre une formation supplémentaire en recherche clinique ou translationnelle. Nous tenons à féliciter la D^re Danielle Rodin, qui a mérité la bourse de recherche de cette année pour son projet intitulé « Contrôler les coûts du cancer : promouvoir les soins axés sur la valeur ».

Bourse ACURA – Nous désirons féliciter les huit gagnants des bourses ACURA cette année, lesquelles représentent un montant total de 220 000 $. Ces bourses, qui sont financées par AbbVie pour mener des recherches sur le cancer de la prostate, ont été décernées à Cynthia Ménard, Tsz Kin Bernard Lee, Luis Souhami, Eric Vigneault, Timothy Craig, Patrick Cheung, Rachel Glicksman et Alejandro Berlin.

Bourse SANOFI – Cette année, deux personnes ont mérité la bourse Sanofi, soit Meredith Guiliani et John Thoms. Ils ont chacun obtenu la somme de 24 000 $ pour leurs projets de recherche liés au cancer de la prostate.

Bourse d’été Pamela Catton de l’ACRO et de la FCRO – L’ACRO et la FCRO ont créé la bourse d’été Pamela Catton, qui permet aux étudiants canadiens en médecine de vivre une expérience clinique incroyable en radio-oncologie en plus de les guider vers un futur choix de carrière. Cette année, cinq bourses d’été ont été décernées à des étudiants d’un bout à l’autre du pays. Il s’agissait de Alexander Koven, Armin Rahmani, Alexis Prive, Sharon Feng et Jordan Hill.

RÉUNIONS

Réunion scientifique annuelle (RSA) de l’ACRO – La 30^e RSA de l’ACRO, à Banff, en Alberta, a été couronnée de succès cette année! Nous avons déjà très hâte à celle de 2017, qui se tiendra du 13 au 16 septembre, à Toronto, en Ontario. Au plaisir de vous y voir!

Cours de l’ACRO et de l’ESTRO – Cette année, l’ACRO et l’ESTRO ont travaillé en collaboration pour présenter le Cours de l’ACRO et de l’ESTRO sur la radiothérapie guidée par l’image pour les cancers gynécologiques. Ce cours a connu un franc succès! L’ACRO continuera de collaborer avec ses organisations sœurs.

Sosido – L’ACRO participe à un réseau de partage des connaissances en ligne, créé pour et par des associations de soins de santé afin de souligner le travail et la recherche d’importance des membres de l’ACRO.
