Position Statement
Foreign trained radiation oncologists being licensed to practice in Canada
The Canadian Association of Radiation Oncology is pleased that the vast majority of physicians practicing Radiation Oncology in Canada are certified by the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) or the Collège des Médecins du Québec (CMQ). To assure Canadian patients of a high standard of Radiation Oncology practice, we believe that 100% of Specialist practitioners in this field should hold either RCPSC or CMQ Specialty certification in Radiation Oncology and demonstrate maintenance of competence by participating in the RCPSC Maintenance of Certification Program. We welcome recent changes to RCPSC regulations that allow all competent practicing Specialists in Canada to obtain Canadian Specialist Certification.
