Claire Snyder, PhD, is Professor of Medicine, Division of General Internal Medicine, at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine with joint appointments in Oncology and Health Policy & Management (Bloomberg School of Public Health).  Her research focuses on the quality of cancer care, with emphasis in two areas: quality of life for cancer patients and coordination of care between primary care providers and cancer specialists.  She has conducted studies to investigate preventive and comorbid condition care in cancer survivors and has also applied her research to developing survivorship care strategies at Johns Hopkins.  In other research, she is investigating whether having cancer patients complete questionnaires about their quality-of-life and supportive care needs, and providing that information to their clinicians, improves care quality. Dr. Snyder has held various leadership positions in international organizations focused on quality-of-life and quality-of-care.  She is President of the International Society for Quality of Life Research. For the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), she served on the Health Services and Quality of Care Committees and the Survivorship Care Planning Task Force, and currently serves on its Patient-Reported Outcomes Panel.

Previously, Dr. Snyder worked at the U.S. National Cancer Institute and edited Outcomes Assessment in Cancer:  Measures, Methods, and Applications (Cambridge University Press).  She began her career in the private sector at Covance Health Economics and Outcomes Services Inc.

Dr. Snyder received a BA cum laude in Public Policy Studies with a certificate in Health Policy from Duke University.  She received a Master of Health Science in Health Policy in 2000 and a PhD in Health Policy & Management in 2005 from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.  She is originally from New Orleans, Louisiana, and currently resides in Baltimore, Maryland.
